Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5000's inner sanctum has not been breached at this point in time. However, a team of twelve personnel belonging to the Science and Defense Corp must remain on the island at all times, as well as seventy-five members of security personnel. In the event of a breach by a hostile entity or entities, personnel are to primarily rely on the on-site defenses to engage and defeat any and all intruders. Should these defenses fail, all members of staff are expected to defend the facility to the last man. Losing SCP-5000 is considered a Code Midnight Scenario.
Description: SCP-5000 is an island twenty kilometers in diameter, located 175 kilometers North-West of the United Kingdom in the North Sea. The island features sea cliffs, often fifty meters in height, with a single channel on the southern face that serves as a harbor. The surface is largely flat and wooded, with a small mountain at the center. The island is dominated by a large castle1 built inside of and around the mountain at the island's center. While the castle displays many similarities with other defensive fortifications built in the Middle Ages, SCP-5000-1 is constructed out of a metal that is unknown to Earth, bearing a hardness of 11 on the Mohs scale. In addition to this, the castle's design favors more angular features and pulses in a light maroon, suggesting the presence of a massive electronics system within the structure.
SCP-5000 is only accessible to persons who are aware of its existence, or those who the site's AI believes are "worthy." This metric is poorly understood and has not been accurately quantified by Foundation Staff.
The site is run by a Class XII Artificial Intelligence, dubbed SCP-5000-2, remains on friendly terms with the Foundation, provided that they do not attempt to break or disturb anything within the castle. It is amicable to the Foundation's presence and has assisted with reverse engineering select pieces of machinery and technology, however, it does refuse to divulge its origin. It is important to note that SCP-5000-2 is roughly 800 years more advanced than any artificial intelligence that is available on Earth. As such, it is recommended to treat it with similar courtesies that one would extend to a friend or acquaintance. It is within the best interest of the Foundation to maintain a friendly relationship with SCP-5000-2 while we attempt to understand its origin.
In addition to SCP-5000-2, nine other artificial intelligence2 inhabit SCP-5000. While not comparable to SCP-5000-2, these AI, designated SCP-5000-3, reside inside advanced robotic bodies. These SCP-5000-3 instances are sentient and sapient, with all nine passing an advanced Turing test that gauged emotional capacity and morality. The same code of conduct for SCP-5000-2 also applies to SCP-5000-3 instances.
The island of SCP-5000 is ringed by thirty-three watchtowers identical in manufacture to SCP-5000. These towers are capable of creating hundreds of warrior drones at any given moment, as dictated by SCP-5000-2. These drones are constructed entirely of a hard-light matrix that can selectively render parts of the drone intangible to allow physical attacks to pass through its body. This makes them extremely hard to injure or disable, and personnel should avoid a confrontation at all costs. While the hard-light technology allows them to manifest in any form, they primarily appear as soldiers from the Middle Ages.
To the best of the Foundation's understanding, SCP-5000 was constructed to protect Earth and monitor the Solar System at large. While SCP-5000-2 did not spare many details, it appears the facility had been offline for an extended period of time, with some unknown event triggering its revival. The details of SCP-5000's capabilities are largely unknown, in short, it is a massive weapons platform that uses energy from the Earth's core to power itself and allegedly defends the Earth from threats. Since activation, SCP-5000 has aggressively integrated existing human technology and infrastructure into its processes. As of August 2008, every weapon system, satellite, and communication system outside of Foundation control is accessible by SCP-5000-2. It has not attempted to interface with any Foundation technology, informing interviewers that it "respects their boundaries" and that "trust is essential to any relationship, even work relationships." It is possible to interfere from these statements that SCP-5000-2 views itself as an organization on par with, or above, the Foundation in regards to defending Earth and the Veil.
Categorically, SCP-5000-2 does not appear to favor involvement with incidents that it believes the Foundation could handle. Rather than directly intervening, SCP-5000-2 will alert the Foundation to the presence of a threat and provide intelligence on how to best contain the anomaly. SCP-5000-2 has taken direct action on two known occasions since its discovery.
The first event was an outbreak of SCP-008 in rural Manitoba. The manner in which this occurred is unknown, but an SCP-5000 watchtower emerged from the ground and approximately one hundred drones exited the structure, lead by an SCP-5000-3 instance. Within one day, they contained the threat, destroyed all vectors of contamination, and provided care and aid to the survivors until the Foundation arrived with amnestics. SCP-5000-2 cited that it had "reasonable doubt about the abilities of the Foundation to contain this threat, not due to ineptitude, but because of the difficulty."
Less is known about the second event. On July 1st, 2007, SCP-5000 fired a massive burst of energy into the atmosphere towards an unknown target. SCP-5000-2 refused to elaborate on the reason.
