Special Containment Procedures: In the event of an SCP-5939 event occurring, all Foundation Sites are to enter a Full Lockdown State after twenty-four (24) hours have passed. Personnel outside of Exclusion Sites or traditional Sites should report to the nearest facility and personnel entering an Exclusion Site must be placed in quarantine and chemically sterilized.
All Lockdown States can only be lifted by an order from the O5 Council or, in the event of their deaths, after one thousand (1,000) years have passed.
Description: SCP-5939 is a powerful mutagenic agent capable of infecting all lifeforms on Earth belonging to the Family Animalia. Upon exposure to SCP-5939, the subject's germline cells will undergo random mutations, causing the offspring to manifest various new traits, such as higher muscle density, additional appendages, internal organ reconfiguration, etc. The true scope of these mutations is currently unknown. All mutations to an organism's genetics are permanent. To the Foundation's knowledge, SCP-5939 events have occurred twice in the history of Earth.
Addendum-02: Cultist Activities - 1789
On October 30th, 1789, residents of Amesbury, England reported seeing a meteor falling from the sky late in the night. The following day, the meteor was found to have completely destroyed a farmhouse approximately two miles away from the town. When a resident attempted to remove the meteor, which was reported about a meter in diameter, the meteor dissolved into a cloud of gold dust that was immediately dispersed by a sudden gust of wind. No significance was attributed to this event until 1845, when a Foundation agent investigated the farmhouse and discovered a hidden subbasement filled with occultist materials. While most of the material has succumbed to rot and age, several items survived and are available for researchers with Level 3 Clearance.
Recovered Items:
- A metal box of unknown function and creation that emits low-frequency bursts of Akiva radiation.1
- Forty-seven pictures of Stonehenge.
- A handwritten note.
- Two books of conflicting chronology. (See Below)
The two books found, designated SCP-5939-A and SCP-5939-B, were hand-bound books that would not be written for 70 years and 200 years respectively.2 SCP-5939-A is the first draft of Charles Darwin's The Origin of Species and has been confirmed to be identical to his handwriting. SCP-5939-B is Steven Jay Gould's A Wonderful Life.
It is currently believed that the meteor that struck in Amesbury was a controlled SCP-5939 event, likely orchestrated by an unknown cult. While it is impossible to designate one anomalous event as the cause, anomalous humans began to appear with an increased frequency following this event, a phenomenon that continues to this day. However, the following note, recovered from the farmhouse, lends more credibility to this claim.
Today, we will take the power of Gods and bring the human race in a new, brighter age. One day soon, we will all walk amongst the stars, hand in hand with the Gods themselves.
Addendum-03: Germline Study
During the construction of an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico in August 1984, a Foundation Deep-Sea probe detected a large burst of Akiva radiation deep in the limestone. The subsequent excavation uncovered a 101-gram meteorite fragment matching descriptions of the one found in Amesbury. After being exposed to oxygen, the fragment broke into a gold color powder, all of which was contained within a sealed dewar flask. To determine the effects of SCP-5939 on animal life, several tests were conducted. (Detailed below.)
Test-01
Initial testing was performed on rats by exposing a single breeding pair to .001 grams of SCP-5939. The pair experienced no ill effects from exposure. Aberrations in the offspring are noted below.
- Hardening of fur into a shell-like structure.
- Growth of two additional limbs in the midsection.
- Formation of an organ resembling human vocal cords.
- Tongue length increase by seven centimeters.
- Tumorous growths.
- Formation of venomous spines along the spine.
Test-02:
Testing was performed on cats by exposing a single breeding pair to .001 grams of SCP-5939. Aberrations in the offspring are noted below.
- Exponential increase in muscle density.
- Venomous glands in the mouth.
- Low-level telepathic powers.
- Manifestation of flames in place of fur.
Test-03:
Testing schedule accelerated. Two humans exposed to .001 grams of SCP-5939. Soon after the birth of the child, all contact was lost with Site-347. Twenty-three hours later, a forty-meter tall entity composed entirely of electricity was seen moving towards [REDACTED], prompting the deployment of a Foundation Strike Team. A massive loss of life was inflicted before they were able to terminate the entity, which was subsequently traced back to the ruins of Site-347. All further testing suspended.
Addendum-04: 19.04.2024
On April 4th, 2024, both SCP-5939-C and Stonehenge began to emit Akiva radiation with identical frequency and intensity. It is believed an SCP-5939 event will occur in the next three months. To combat this, the Foundation has elected to chemically sterilize all animal life on Earth using [REDACTED]. There is no plan in place to recover from this action. Instructions have been sent to the appropriate members of staff.
